This is an informative hands on two day workshop of alternative print making & cyanotype photographic printing. Learn from artist Thomas Bollinger about the historic Cyanotype process and how to make your own sun prints. Participants of this workshop will use botanical specimens, lace, cut paper and other common household objects to create one of a kind photograms on light sensitive paper. These working methods are similar to the ones used by photographers of the early 1800s! Cyanotype printing is a simple, experimental, and one of the oldest photographic methods available. Learn these antique photographic processes using paint-on light sensitive emulsions in royal blue. Smooth Surface papers ( or cotton, muslin, or silk) are coated with the blue/ emulsion, dried, and under glass are exposed in the UV light of the sun. They are then simply developed using water.
Discover alternative transfers with laser prints of images – B&W or color. We will use non toxic Solvent Transfer methods. A demonstration using wintergreen oils for transfer and as well as an opportunity to make Acrylic Medium Transfers, and transfer using blender pens to transfer images to watercolor paper . The workshop will also cover how to mount artwork to wood art panels and create collages using all these techniques.
**Upon sign up a list of items to bring will be provided as well as information of where to purchase art supplies. Instruction will be provided prior to workshop on how to make laser prints and negatives from your favorite photos and objects. You will use these prints and negatives in the acrylic medium transfer process and for cyanotype photographic print making.
This workshop will be a prerequisite for an upcoming series of advanced workshops on Alternative Transfer, Cyanography & Encaustic Photography.
