Doris Mee lives in Harwich, Massachusetts, on Cape Cod. She paints and teaches there as well as in Florida. Doris is an award-winning artist. Within the past 5 years, she has been accepted in numerous juried exhibits, has won 16 awards n regional art shows, including 4 first place and 3 second place prizes. Her work is included in numerous collections, nationally and internationally.
Over the years, Doris has studied with many nationally and internationally recognized teachers. She paints in both watercolor and acrylic. She often mixes watercolor, acrylic, and collage in the same painting. “I’ll use whatever it takes to make it work”, says Doris. When painting on location, she uses transparent watercolor, but in the studio and when doing non-representational work, she often uses acrylic. “I love intense color and strong value changes in my work, and I find this can be best achieved with either fluid or full-bodied acrylics.” She assembles her collage paintings from a wide variety of papers. She has a special fondness for oriental papers which she hand-paints with watercolors and acrylics.
“Art, as well as life, involves constant change and adaptation to one’s environment. I derive a sense of joy and creativity with each painting, which I hope to share with the viewers of my work”
Doris has a strong following for her watercolor and collage classes and workshops, enrolling many repeat students over the years. “We have a lot of fun in the workshops and make good art while we’re at it.”
